Tessie I. Alston, 98, Loved to Make Others Smile

Mrs. Alston was born in Butler, PA on July 10, 1914, the daughter of the late Elmer A. and Ada M. (nee West) Hackenburg.
She moved to Lorain in 1920 and was a 1933 B graduate of Lorain High School. She has been a member of the Christian Temple-Disciples of Christ since 1920.
Mrs. Alston worked at Smith-Gerharts and Canalos. She retired in 1982 from the employment office of US Steel with 27 years service.
She was a member of the Child Conservation League, Harmonetts Coral Group, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and a volunteer in the Lorain Palace Civic Center. She was a member of the Lorain Community Seniors and A.A.R.P. # 399.
Mrs. Alston was a member of the committee for her graduation class reunions, occurring every 5 years. Also, she was in charge of their luncheon get-together's every three months.
Tess was a wonderful, hard working person who unselfishly lived life in the moment. She enjoyed her family, sewing baby quilts, being a good friend and neighbor. She was gifted in making people smile.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy (James) Werley of Lorain, grandsons Brad (Stephanie) Werley, Todd (Merry Ann) Werley, great grandchildren Alexis, Emily and Benjamin Werley, a sister Faye Jones of Laguna Hills, CA, two nieces and one nephew.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Donald.
Friends may call on Sunday, September 23, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.
Funeral services will be Monday, September 24, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Bradley J. Donahue, pastor of the Christian Temple Disciples of Christ, officiating.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
