Winifred N. Wenger, 89, Devoted Family Woman and Avid Reader

She was born July 28, 1923 in Elyria and had resided in Lorain since 1954.
Winnie graduated from Elyria High School and attended the St. Joseph School of Nursing. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse and was on the first team of hospice nurses with the St. Joseph Hospice program.
Winnie was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain. She was very devoted to her family and loved reading.
She is survived by her children William Wenger of Florida, Patricia Shullick of Lorain, Charles Wenger of Columbus, Penny Wenger-Libicki (Charlie) of Ashkelon, Israel and David Wenger of Columbus, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and brother Raymond (Ailene) Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband David Wenger, son Kenny Wenger, her parents Edward and Lennie Merle Smith (nee Snodgrass), brothers Edward and Donald Smith and sister Betty Greco.
The family will receive friends Sunday 1-4pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Additional viewing will be held on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral mass at 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 310 8th St, Lorain. The Rev. Daniel Divis, pastor, will officiate. Cremation will follow.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Avon Oaks Nursing Home for the loving care they showed Winnie and for creating a second home for her.
