Helen A. Muzek, 95, Breast Cancer Survivor & Avid Volunteerer

She was born January 10, 1917 in Duquesne, Pennsylvania and had resided in the Lorain and Avon areas since childhood.
Helen attended Lorain High School and worked as a waitress at Fior’s Spaghetti House in Vermilion-on-the-Lake and at the Gypsy Fiddle Inn in Lorain.
Helen enjoyed arts and crafts, painting and antique work. She taught weaving and arts and crafts out of her home for many years and taught one semester at Oberlin College.
She volunteered with the St. Joseph Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, was active in the Lorain County Democratic Women’s Group and enjoyed cooking and baking. Helen was a breast cancer survivor.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain and St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Avon.
She is survived by her children Diane Freeman of Lorain, James Muzek of Avon and Carol (Ralph) Marek of Thousand Palms, CA, grandchildren Denise, Michael, Kristina, Jeffrey, Mark, David, Tami and Jennifer, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years Frank Muzek in 1977, parents George and Suzanna Mraz (nee Borza), sisters Anna Fior, Susan Terschak, Mary Herbert, Elizabeth Trubach and Bertha Baldwin, infant sisters Olga Mraz and Margaret Mraz and son-in-law Melvin Freeman.
The family will receive friends Thursday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 310 8th St, Lorain. The Rev. James Becherer will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
