Ruth V. Gascoigne, 92, Proud Navy Wife & Loving Mother

Photo of Ruth V.  Gascoigne Ruth V. Gascoigne (nee Brown), 92, of Lorain, died Tuesday October 23, 2012 at her home after a lengthy illness.

She was born July 20, 1920 in Lorain and had resided in Lorain the past 30 years. As the wife of a former Lieutenant Colonel in the US Air Force, she lived in many places such as Frankfurt, Germany, Omaha, Long Island, Virginia, Arizona and St. Petersburg, Florida.

Ruth graduated from Lorain High School. She worked as a secretary to the dean of Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia. Prior to that, she worked at the Lorain County Courthouse.

While living in Florida, Ruth volunteered with the Meals-on-Wheels program and at the local hospital. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. Ruth was a devoted mother to her six children and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain.

She is survived by her children Jane Rose of Lorain, Lynn (Jim) Vajda of Deltaville, VA, Joseph Gascoigne of Englewood, CO, James Gascoigne of Herndon, VA and Lawrence Gascoigne of Linden, VA, 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and sister-in-law Jean Gascoigne of Sebastian, FL. She was preceded in death by her son John Gascoigne, parents John and Louise Brown (nee Burgett),sister Evelyn Colgan, brother Jack Brown and sister-in-law Jeanne Brown.

The family will receive friends Thursday 6-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Cremation will take place on Friday. A memorial mass will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Edward Luca will officiate. Her ashes will be interred at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
