Steven A. Kos, 89, WWII Veteran & Accomplished Accordion Player

He was born in Lorain on December 26, 1922 and was a graduate of Lorain High School . He later attended Morehead State College.
Mr. Kos was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army and fulfilled duty assignments as a Private First Class attached to the HQ Company, 2nd Infantry. He participated in conflicts throughout the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe and was the recipient of the Purple Heart, the American Theater Ribbon, the European-African Middle-Eastern Service Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of Louis Paul Proy Chapter # 20 of the Disabled American Veterans.
Steve was employed as a machinist in the # 1 Machine Shop at United States Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works and retired following a career that spanned forty-two years with the steel producer. He was a member of United Steelworker’s Local 1104, the Golden Age Pensioneer’s Club, and the Lorain Slovenian Club.
Mr. Kos was a parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where he was a member of the Holy Name Society as well as the Altar & Rosary Society.
He was an accomplished accordion player who enjoyed listening to polka music. Steve also possessed a passion for fixing and repairing anything and everything that didn’t work properly.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years Dolores (nee Prill), son Darryl of Elyria Township, and daughters Patricia (Dennis) Paul of Boise, Idaho and Judith (Rafael) Lopez of North Ridgeville. He also leaves six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and sisters Valerie Kos of Lorain and Mary Vanca of Amherst .
He was preceded in death by his parents Anton and Mary (nee Rozman) Kos , by his brother Edward, and by a sister Ernestine Yuhas.
Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue , Lorain . Funeral services will begin Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.in the funeral chapel and will be followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. 41295 North Ridge Road , Elyria Township. The Reverend Donald Dunson, Pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by Chapter # 20 of the Disabled American Veterans.
