Laura S. Montalto, 97, Dedicated Wife, Mother & Nurse

Laura S. Montalto (nee Stout), age 97, formerly of Lorain, passed away peacefully on the evening of Tuesday November 20, 2012 in New York City.

Laura was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 22, 1914 and had been a long-time resident of Lorain.

She was a 1936 graduate of Oberlin College where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She later enrolled in the Bellevue Hospital School of Nursing in New York where she completed the three-year curriculum and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1939.

For twenty-seven years Mrs. Montalto was employed as a Registered Nurse at the American Shipbuilding Company in Lorain retiring in 1977. She had formerly been employed in the same capacity at St. Joseph Hospital also in Lorain.

Laura was a parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter and was a long-time member of the Lorain Family Y.M.C.A. Regarded as a voracious reader, she also enjoyed sewing in her free time.

She is survived by her daughter Mary Margaret Feinberg (Paul) residing in New York, granddaughters Alix Sherman (Jonathan) and Shaina Feinberg (fiancé Christopher Manley) and great grandchildren Jacob, Hannah, and Noah Sherman.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph D. “Monte” Montalto in 1992, and by her parents Waldo N. and Ola Mae (nee Wright) Stout.

Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Craig Hovanec, Pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Laura’s memory to the Lorain Public Library – 351 6th St. – Lorain, OH 44052.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel.
