Miguel A. Rubio, 87, Former Owner of La Borincana Food Market

Photo of Miguel A.  Rubio Miguel A. “Mikey” Rubio, 87 of Lorain entered eternal rest surrounded by his family Friday, November 30, 2012 in New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph, Lorain.

He was born June 1, 1925 in Hatillo, Puerto Rico. He came to Lorain in 1953.

Miguel owned and operated La Borincana Food Market in South Lorain. He worked there for 32 years. He also worked for Swift and Company in Cleveland for 10 years and was currently a school crossing guard on the south side of Lorain.

Miguel was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain and the Spanish American Business Association. He enjoyed the Cleveland Indians, dominoes and casino bus trips.

He will be dearly missed by his wife Carmen (nee Bermudez) of Lorain; daughters Evelyn Gnuske and Luz Maria “Mary” Cruz both of Lorain, Carmen (Juan) Rodriguez of Rochester, New York and Ana (Alex) Pravato of Springfield, New York; sons Ernie (Connie) and Miguel (Alva) Rios both of Lorain; brothers José Rubio of Arecibo, Puerto Rico and Luis Rubio of Milwaukie, Wisconsin; 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Miguel was preceded in death by his parents Jose A. and Etervina (nee Cruz) Rubio and 18 brothers and sisters.

His family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 6 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain (440) 277-8164. Friends my also call Monday from 8:30 until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM. Rev. Father William A. Thaden, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
