Edward F. Strnad, 77, US Navy Veteran & Meat Cutter

Edward F. Strnad, 77, of Amherst, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday December 5, 2012.

He was born February 12, 1935 in Lorain and had resided in Amherst for the past 5 years.

Ed served with the US Navy from 1954-1958 with the rate of Seaman.

He worked as a Meat Cutter for First National Food Stores, Pick-n-Pay, Edwards and Topps Grocery Stores in the area for over 42 years retiring in 2000.

Ed was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain where he volunteered with the St. Mary Choice Food Pantry and was a member of UFCW Local #880.

He enjoyed hunting, cooking, gardening, canning fruits and vegetables and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Betty Strnad (nee Stump), son Kevin (Karen) Strnad of LaGrange, Kentucky, daughter Tamara Strnad-Rudolph (Robert F.) of Amherst, grandchildren Jennifer, Jessica, Heather, Brett and Lillian and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents Ludvik & Vera Strnad (nee Kotolowski) and brothers and sisters Louis Strnad, Joseph Strnad, Vera May, Dolores Strnad and Paul Strnad.

The family will receive friends Sunday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:00 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 310 8th St, Lorain. The Rev. Daniel O. Divis, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
