Mary C. Vanca, 87, Loving Nurse & Gifted Story-Teller

Photo of Mary C.  Vanca Mary C. Vanca, (nee Kos), age 87, of Lorain , passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday December 15, 2012.

She was born in Lorain on May 5, 1925 and had been a life-long resident of the city.

Mrs. Vanca was a Licensed Practical Nurse who served the residents of Autumn Aegis Nursing Home for 35 years prior to her retirement.

She was a parishioner of St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, whose hobbies included rose gardening, and crafting with a special focus in the areas of painting crocheting, and macramé.

Mary was regarded as a gifted story teller who also enjoyed telling jokes to her circle of family and friends.

She displayed a deep passion for animals and had been a long-time volunteer with the S.P.C.A.

Mrs. Vanca served as the past Senior Vice President of the Ladies Auxiliary of V.F.W. Post # 451 and received extensive gratification and fulfillment from the monthly hospitality visits that her organization took to the Brecksville V.A. facility.

She is survived by daughters Karen (Robert) Horvath, and Linda Vanca both residing in Lorain, along with Gayle Vanca of Yarmouth, Massachusetts, and by her sons Michael (Joyce) Vanca of Fort Myers, Florida, Timothy (Karen) Vanca of Corona, California, and Jonathan Vanca of Surprise, Arizona. In addition, Mary leaves seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and her sister Valerie Kos of Lorain .

She was preceded in death by her husband Mike in 1980, by her parents Anton and Mary (nee Rozman) Kos , by brothers Steven and Edward Kos, and by her sister Ernestine Yuhas.

Visitation will be observed Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue , Lorain . A Parastas Service will begin the visitation at 4:00. Funeral services will be Tuesday commencing with Panachida Services at 9:30 a.m.in the funeral chapel; the Divine Liturgy will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. Nicholas Byzantine Rite Catholic Church, 2711 West 40th Street with the Very Reverend Nicholas R. A. Rachford, J.C.L. officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery .
