Jaunita E. Tournas, 67, Avid Reader and Dedicated Social Worker
Juanita E. Tournas, 67, (nee Miller), of Lorain passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the Ames Family Hospice House in Westlake following a long illness.Mrs. Tournas was born in Lorain on November 6, 1945, the daughter of the late Laurie McLamont and Ruby Belle (nee Bogart) Miller. She was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Elyria.
She is a 1963 graduate of Lorain High School and a 1967 graduate of Kent State University with a Bachelor's in Education.
Mrs. Tournas worked as a social worker with the Lorain County Jobs and Family Services for 23 1/2 years retiring in August 2012. She had taught English at Midview Schools for 10 years, and was a supervisor with the Board of Mental Retardation for 5 years.
She is Past Worthy Matron of Stone City Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in Amherst and a member of El Rey Caldron Daughters of Mokanna.
Mrs. Tournas enjoyed reading and talking with friends.
She is survived by her son James J. (Erin) Tournas of Wickliffe, a grandson Benjamin. and step-son Nick Tournas of Lorain.
Friends may call on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 from 4-7 p.m. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 27, 2012 in the funeral home with Rev. Evelyn Bonnell, pastor emeritus of Cornerstone United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, OH.
