Barbara S. Hicks, 88, Devoted Family Woman

Mrs. Hicks was a graduate of Salem College and had been employed as a Home Economics Teacher for the Lorain Public School system where she fulfilled teaching assignments at Admiral King High School as well as Whittier School ; a member of the Lorain Education Association, she retired from teaching in 1968.
Barbara Sue had been an active member of the former Christ United Methodist Church in Lorain where she served as a Trustee, usher, and Sunday school teacher.
She was active as a room mother at both Garfield and Hawthorne Schools and also served as a member of the P.T.A. there. She later enjoyed working as a member of the Admiral King Band Boosters.
Devoted to her family and grandchildren, Mrs. Hicks enjoyed a passion for quilting in her free time.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years Frank O. Hicks, by daughters Lisa S. (Kevin) Dael of Athens, Ohio and Beth A. Peace residing in Fairview Park . She also leaves grandchildren Ryan M. Dael, Eryn F. Dael, Connor J. Dael, Noah J. Peace, and Jade A. Peace, along with her sister-in-law Linda K. Mitchell residing in Sugar Creek, Ohio her aunt Geraldine Wilson residing in North Ridgeville, Ohio, one niece, one nephew, and an array of cousins.
Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her parents Herbert F. and Wilma W. (nee Wilson) Mitchell, and by her brother Franklin Mitchell.
Visitation will be Friday from 5-8pm in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Additional visitation will be observed on Monday from 11am until the time of services at 1pm in the McCullough-Rogers & Raiguel Funeral Home, 447 West Myles Ave., Pennsboro, West Virginia. Burial will follow in Pullman Cemetery.
