Alexandros Loannidis, 91, Greek Army Veteran & Loving Grandfather
Alexandros Alex Loannidis, 91, of Lorain, fell asleep in the Lord, January 11, 2013 in Saint John Hospital, Westlake.
He was born June 15, 1921 in Pixos, Florina, Greece. He immigrated to Lorain in 1951.
Mr. Ioannidis retired in 1984 from the 4 seamless pipe mill at U. S. Steel, Lorain Works. He worked there for 32 years. Alexandros was a member of Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Lorain and the United Steel Workers 1104 Lorain.
During World War II he was in the Greek Army. He was very patriotic and loved his family, especially his grandchildren. Alexandros enjoyed having coffee with his friends, studying geography and politics, and traveling.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 69 years Vasiliki (nee Michaelidis) Loannidis of Lorain; son Michael (Elka) Ioannidis of Sheffield Lake; daughter Aneta (Michael) Fine of Avon; brother Ianis (née Alexandra) Petridis of Chicago; grandchildren Amy (Bryan) Barnes, Lisa (David) Lindblom and Alexandra and Arianna Fine; great grandson Gavin Lindblom.
He was preceded in death by his parents Stylianos and Ioanna Ioannidis; brothers George, Naoumos and Nicholas and a sister Sotiria.
His family will receive friends Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 E. 31st Street, South Lorain where Trisagion service will be Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM. Friends may also Wednesday 10:00 until time of his funeral service 11:00 AM in Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 2000 Tower Boulevard, Lorain. Rev. Father Michael C. Gulgas, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
