Evelyn M. Coates , 70 , Loving Stepmother & Bluegrass Lover

Mrs. Coates was born in Lorain on June 26, 1942, the daughter of the late John H. and Rose E. (nee Taylor) Hogan. She was a graduate of Vermilion High School.
She retired as an advertising layout designer with The Chronicle-Telegram in Elyria for more than 30 years. She was especially fond of her dog, Sheba and loved bluegrass music.
Mrs. Coates is survived by two step daughters, Barbara (Bob) Casica, Jean Lavey both of Elyria, two step sons Robert (Janice) Coates, Gary Coates of Lorain, very close and dearest friends, just like sisters, Sherry Meier of Lorain, Sally Carte of Vermilion, Mary Ellen Patterson of Texas, very special niece, Mary Pinto, niece Shelly Marie Hogan-Hall and several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter H. Coates in 2007, brothers John Hogan, Kenneth Hogan and a "almost sister" Sandra Shreve.
Friends may call on Thursday, January 17, 2013 from 11:00 am until services at 1:00 p.m in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain. The Rev. Jay Roller, pastor of Grace Baptist Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
