Charles S. Zan, 74, U.S. Army Veteran & Loving Husband
Charles S. Chickie Zan, age 74, of Avon, passed away on January 27, 2013 following an extended illness. He was born in Lorain on January 27, 1939 and had been a resident of Avon for the past 30 years.Mr. Zan was a graduate of Lorain High School . He went on to complete a period of enlistment in the United States Army where he was attached to the 11th Cavalry Co; Chickie held a Sharpshooter’s Badge for the M-14 Rifle and was also the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal.
He was most recently employed as an assembler for Phoenix Products in Avon.
An avid fan of NASCAR, Mr. Zan was known as a very private individual who enjoyed the solitude of his home. His real love was channeled toward his family pets and his 1986 Dodge pick-up truck known as Baby Blue.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years JoAnn (nee Milicic), and his children Michael (Emily) Zan of Bowie, Maryland, Christine (Juan) Collazo of Elyria, Matthew (Terri) Zan of Lorain, and Merri (Sam) Hull of Lagrange. He also leaves 8 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and his brother Ken (Lida) Zan residing in Amherst, as well as one niece and one great niece.
Chickie was preceded in death by his son Charles S. Zan, Jr. in 2009, by his father Charles Chick Zan, in 1999, and by his mother Angeline Angie Zan (nee Luvera) in 2005.
