Wilford A. Terschak, 88, US Coast Guard Veteran & Loving Husband
Wilford A. Wil Terschak, 88, of Lorain, died Thursday February 7, 2013 with his family at his side at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a lengthy illness.
He was born October 18, 1924 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Wil attended Garfield School in Lorain and graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1942 B. He served with the US Coast Guard Air Sea Rescue Unit during World War II.
Wil worked at Bendix in Elyria as a machinist, tool designer and senior manufacturing engineer before retiring. Afterward, he and his friend Delvis Kerns co-owned KTS Meltbar Products Inc and retired in 1995.
He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Lorain where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Holy Name Society in which he was named Man-of-the-Year in 1982. He also taught PSR classes at St. Stanislaus Church.
Wil was a life member of VFW Post #451 in Lorain and a member of the Polish National Alliance Lodge #442 and Council #51 and served as secretary since 1962.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years Rita (nee Smith), children Michaelene (William) Hayes of Safety Harbor, Florida, Dennis (Joan) Terschak, Pamela (Kenneth) Koscho and Nancy (Wayne) Emerick, all of Lorain, Dale (Pamela) Terschak of Vermilion and Barbara Schaefer of Lorain, 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and brother Eugene Terschak of Avon. He was preceded in death by his parents Stephen and Susan Terschak (nee Mraz), brother Daniel Terschak and sisters Joan Bartlebaugh and Patricia Tenorio.
The family will receive friends Sunday 4-8pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain where the Nativity Church Holy Name Society and Altar & Rosary Society will pray the rosary Sunday at 6:30 pm. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Nativity BVM Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Robert J. Glepko, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the VFW Post #451 and American Legion Post #30, both of Lorain, will conduct military honors.
