Raymond J. Pavlovcic, 78, U.S. Steel Worker

Photo of Raymond J. Pavlovcic Raymond J. Pavlovcic, 78, of Elyria Township passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013 in Oaks Hills Nursing Home, Lorain following a lengthy illness.

He was born February 26, 1927 in Lorain he lived here until moving to Elyria Township in 1951. He graduated from Lorain High School class of 1945-B.

Mr. Pavlovcic retired in 1985 from U. S. Steel. He worked there for 40 years. He was a member of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish Church, Lorain. Raymond was a member of the former Saints Cyril and Methodius Slovenian Catholic Church, Lorain, where he was a Altar Server and was awarded Holy Name Man of the Year and recognized for being a member of the Holy Name for over 50 Years. Ray was proud of his Slovenian heritage and worked tirelessly for the Lorain Slovenian Home where he was honored as Man of the Year by K S K J Lodge and the Federation of Slovenian National Homes in 1992. As well as being a member K S K J Lodge, Lorain he was a member of the United Steel Workers Local 1104, Lorain. Ray was athletic he played for Fatties fast pitch softball team and enjoyed bowling and golf. He also enjoyed dancing and playing his button box to Slovenian Polkas.

He will be missed by his brother Frank (Frances) Pavlovcic of Lorain; nephews Frank Pavlovcic of Lorain and George (Fran) Pavlovcic of Avon; niece Kathy (Al) Szarek of Lorain and great and great grand nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Lenora (née Prill) Pavlovcic in March 2005; parents Frank and Mary (née Kosten) Pavlovcic; brother Carl Pavlovcic and a nephew Carl Pavlovcic.

His family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 6 PM in Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, where Closing Prayers will be Tuesday at 10 then Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish Church, 2143 Homewood Drive (at Grove Ave. Rt. 57). Rev. Father John C. Retar, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
