Edward J. Frankovich, 87, U.S. Steel Worker & Army Veteran

Photo of Edward J.  Frankovich Edward J. “Heinie” Frankovich, 87 of Lorain passed away peacefully in his home Sunday, March 10, 2013 following a lengthy illness.

He was born November 21, 1924 in Lorain, and was a livelong resident.

Mr. Frankovich retired from the Number Seven Lap Mill of U. S. Steel, Lorain Works in 1986. He worked there for 37 years. He served in the Army during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific theater of war.

Edward was a member of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish Church, Lorain. he was a member of the former Saint Vitus Croatian Catholic Church of Lorain. He was also a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union 136, a life member of the American Croatian Club and the United Steel Workers 1104 Lorain. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, horse races, and taking pictures.

He will deeply missed by his wife of 60 years Helen (née Moldovan) Frankovich of Lorain; daughters Debbie (Jim) Kopis and Mary Jo Frankovich both of Lorain; sister Caroline Dolyk of Lorain his grandchildren Jen and Eric McCarthy both of Lorain and Mike Kopis of Lorain; great grandchildren Tyler, Auston and Brooklynn McCarthy.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Josephine (née Canjar) Frankovich; brothers Frank, Steve, frank, Nicholas and Matt Frankovich and sisters Josephine Derifay, Mary Danevich and Frances Chaszar.

His family will receive friends Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 PM in Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, where Closing Prayers will be Thursday at 9:30 then Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish Church, 2143 Homewood Drive (at Grove Ave. Rt. 57). Rev. Father John C. Retar, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20 will conduct Military Honors.
