Theda I. Galanic, 93, Enjoyed Sewing & Gardening

Photo of Theda I. Galanic Theda I. Galanic, (nee Strayer), age 93, of Amherst , passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of April 3, 2013 at Bradley Bay Health Center in Bay Village . She was born in Montpelier , Ohio on September 24, 1919 and had been a resident of Lorain County for over seventy years.

A graduate of Montpelier High School, Theda was most recently employed as a baker at the former Lorain Community Hospital ; she retired from there in 1984. She had previously worked at the Nelson Stud Welding Division of T.R.W. as well as U.S. Automatic, the predecessor to Nordson Corporation.

In her free time, Mrs. Galanic enjoyed sewing and flower gardening. She also liked frequent exercise visits to the Lorain Y.M.C.A.

She is survived by her daughters Patricia Galanic of Hickory , North Carolina and Christine M. Deardowski residing in Garfield Heights . She also leaves four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, her sister Dorothy Schlegel of Montpelier , along with several nieces and nephews.

Theda was preceded in death by her husband Dominic in 1992, by her parents Glen and Grace (nee Crow) Strayer, by brothers Rex, Darrel, and Maurice, and by sisters Thelma Reamsnyder and Lois Rickner.

Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue , Lorain . Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with Reverend Daniel O. Divis, pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church presiding. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery .
