Maria R. Rivera, 87, Loving Wife & Mother
Maria Ruiz Rivera, 87, of Lorain passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2013 in Metro Health Medical Center, Cleveland following a brief illness.
She was born January 1, 1925 in Patillas, Puerto Rico. In 1946 she moved to McKeesport, Pennsylvania, then she made Lorain her home in 1982.
Mrs. Rivera was homemaker and loving wife and mother. She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. Maria was known to be smart, beautiful, strong, caring, loving, with a charismatic spirit. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She enjoyed her rose garden. She also loved her faithful dog Pepsi.
She will be dearly missed by her sons Armando (of the Puerto Rican Home) and Tito Rivera both of Lorain, daughters Maria Rivera Perez and Miriam Rivera Flores both of Chicago, Illinois, Yolanda Rivera Lopez of West New York, New Jersey, Hilda Rivera of Lorain and Rose Rivera Gibson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; sisters Carmen Ruiz Colon and Ciela Ruiz Gonzalez both of Chicago; 11 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.
Maria was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Santos R. Rivera in 2003; her parents Julio Ruiz and Carmela Torres; 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
He family will receive friends Friday 4 to 8 PM at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Ohio. Her funeral service will be Saturday 9:30 AM in the funeral home. Deacon Edgar Gonzalez of Saint Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, Elyria Township will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
