Herman P. Saxon, 88, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of Herman P. Saxon Herman P. "Sax" Saxon, 88 of Lorain passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the Wesleyan Village in Elyria following a brief illness.

Mr. Saxon was born in Elyria on December 22, 1924, the son of the late Herman E. and Marie (nee Solon) Saxon. He was a graduate of Amherst High School and a member of the former First United Methodist Church.

He served in the US Army during World War II, earning the E.A.M.E. Ribbon with bronze stars for campaigns in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe, Good Conduct Medal and the Combat Infantry Badge.

Mr. Saxon was a tool and die maker for General Motors in Elyria with more than 25 years service, retiring in 1987. He has also worked at Buckeye Mold in Elyria.

He was a member of the N.R.A. and enjoyed fishing, gardening and most of all spending time with his family.

Mr. Saxon is survived by his wife of 59 years, Melvenia L. (nee Gray) Saxon, daughters Janell L. (Edward) Green of Amherst, Gail A. (Jeff) Babb, of Mount Lake Terrace, WA, grandchildren, Erik Green, Hadley Babb, great grandchildren, Elias Green, Olivia Green, Lily Green and a brother James (Phyllis) Saxon of Elyria.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, April 22, 2013 at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Beth McKee will officiate. Full military honors will be provided jointly by the American Legion Post 30 and the VFW Post 451.

Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at the Wesleyan Village in Elyria, with Rev. Beth McKee, chaplain, officiating.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Wesleyan Village, 807 West Ave., Elyria, 44035 in Mr. Saxon's memory.
