Andrew M. Kaya, 97, U.S. Navy Veteran

He was born September 30, 1915 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Andrew served with the US Navy Seabees during World War II.
He worked at US Steel in Lorain in the Diesel Garage retiring in 1978 after 43 years.
Andrew was an excellent woodworker, wood carver and artist. He made many acrylic and oil paintings of nature scenes and wood carvings of birds and flowers. He taught wood carving classes in South Amherst and water color painting at the Salvation Army. He was a member of the Salvation Army Keenagers.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Josephine (nee DiLuciano), children Donna Busch of Vermilion, JoAnn Gerace (David) of Louisville, KY, John Kaya (Georgia) of Huntington Twp., Doug Kaya (Connie) of Henrietta Twp., Andrew Kaya, Jr (Debra) of Lorain and Jeff Kaya (Denise) of Lorain, 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary Kaya (nee Konter), sisters Julia Garbak and Mary Shepherd and brothers John Kaya, Jr, Michael Kaya and Joseph Kaya.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:30 am until the time of funeral services at 11:30 am at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. The Rev. James Holmer, former pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion, will officiate. Entombment will take place in the mausoleum at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon where the VFW Post 451 and American Legion Post 30, both of Lorain, will conduct military honors.
