Samuel Morgan, 86, U.S. Navy Veteran

He was born April 7, 1927 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Sam served with the US Navy during World War II in the Philippine Islands and was part of a Seabee Unit that handled jungle security. He received several medals and commendations.
He attended Bowling Green State University and graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor Degree in Business Management. He was an active member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity where he served as pledge master.
Sam worked at US Steel in Lorain in the Open Hearth and BOP Shop and retired as a Supervisor after 39 � years. Later, he worked as a consultant for 10 years for British steel producer Foseco.
Sam was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post #30 and the Jaycees, all in Lorain.
Sam loved to tell stories, many of them over and over again. He was very patriotic and enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling having visited his family in Wales and taking casino bus trips.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Ellen Morgan (nee Kerchinske), children Sandra A. Drabiak (Ted) of Lorain, Lynn A. Kurowski (Jack) of Alpharetta, Georgia and Garth S. Morgan (Brenda) of Lorain, grandchildren Rebecca Barlow, Morgan Minnich, Melissa Trapino, Steven Ferenczy, Samuel Ferenczy, Brandon Morgan, Madelynn Drabiak, Nathan Drabiak and Austin Morgan, 5 great granddaughters, 1 great great grandson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Jesse Morgan (nee Lewis), 1 great grandson, brother Walter Bud Morgan and sisters Mary Jane Smith and Gwenda Graupner.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:00 pm until the time of funeral services at 2:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Wayne DeMarco, pastor of First United Presbyterian Church in Lorain, will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
