Chris A. Johni, 83, U.S. Air Force Veteran

He was born November 2, 1929 in Lorain and was a lifelong resident. Mr. Johni graduated from Lorain High School in 1948. After graduation he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force, he was an engine specialist and flight engineer. Mr. Johni Graduated from Kent State University with a Business Degree. He retired from Lorain County Human Services in 1995. He worked as a caseworker for 15 years. He worked in the trucking industry for 25 years as a dock foreman, dispatcher and other supervisory positions. He also worked as an accountant for Industrial Rayon Corp.
Chris was an active member of Saint Cyril and Methodius Orthodox Church, Lorain He served on the church board as secretary and treasurer for many years. He always enjoyed church activities including coffee group. He loved his church, his friends and his grandchildren.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 27 years Cheryl Johni (née Tucker); brother Ted Johni of Cincinnati; daughter Pamela (Tom) Warner of Kirtland, New Mexico and Lori Gailey of Arizona; son Brad Gailey of Arizona; step children Craig Lukes of Amherst, Doug Lukes of LaGrange, Gary Lukes of Edgewater, Florida, Matt Lukes of Twin falls, Idaho, and George Lukes of Coeur D’ Alene, Iowa; daughter Dr. Rebecca Meyers of Spokan, Washington; grandchildren Chrysta Lukes, Christopher and Faith Meiers and Neil, Shawn Visloski; great grandchildren Christopher and Elizabeth Cole; cousins Olga Lazoff and Boris Bo Bo Lazoff both of Lorain; niece Shannon (James) Collings of Cuyahoga Falls; nephews Scott Johni of Tampa, Florida and Brian Johni of Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alex and Sylvia (née Yovanoff) Johni; and a great grandson Matthew Cole.
His family will receive friends Friday from 4 to 8 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain where Trisagon service will be 7:00 PM Friday evening. His funeral service will be Saturday, 10:00 AM in Saints Cyril and Methodius Church, 3056 Reeves Ave, Lorain. Rev. Paul G Monkowski, Rector will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain. Where the Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20 will conduct Military Honors.
