William R. Miadock, 88, U.S. Navy Veteran

Bill was born March 18, 1925 in Elyria and had resided in Lorain since 1950. After graduating from Elyria High School in 1943, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he was assigned to a brand new destroyer mine layer, the U.S.S. Lindsey. He proudly served his country during World War II in the South Pacific arena and was the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal.

He owned and operated Cedar Café, a Broadway Avenue landmark, until the time of his retirement in 1989; he was an active member of the Central Businessman’s Association.

Following his retirement, he volunteered his time to the Disabled American Veterans, Louis Paul Proy Chapter # 20 where he served as Commander for one year and then Chaplain, overseeing numerous military funerals. He was also a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter # 473 in Elyria, Ohio.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 65 years Agnes Miadock (nee Stefanich), children Diana Mahilo of Cincinnati, Thomas (Judith) Miadock of Lorain, Karen (Lawrence) Treboniak of Lorain, and James (Debra) Miadock of Lorain along with eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Kathryn Miadock (nee Mraz), and sister Ruth Staller (nee Miadock).

The family will receive friends on Sunday June 16th from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Jimmy Madsen, Pastor of First Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. A Christian Burial Service will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township where military honors will be conducted by the Department of the Navy assisted by members of the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter # 20.
