Mary Spisak, 88, Enjoyed Cooking and Crocheting

Mary Spisak, (nee Chochol), age 88, of Elyria, passed away at her residence on June 14, 2013.

She was born in Velka Poloma, Czechoslovakia on January 4, 1925. In 1929 she and her family immigrated to North America settling in Quebec, Canada. She subsequently came to the United States in 1946.

Mary was employed as a cashier for the Kroger Company and retired from there in 1973. She had previously worked as a bookkeeper for both Kohlmyer Hardware and the Sears and Roebuck Company. She was a past member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union.

Mrs. Spisak was an active member of St. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church in Sheffield Township; she served as an instructor in the Sunday school there and formerly held the post of Superintendent. She was a member of the Ruth Naomi Ladies Guild at the church and had also sung with the church choir.

Mary had served as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society for 38 years.

In her free time she enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, knitting, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters Louise Hall (Chip) of Elyria and Cynthia Klokel (Jack) of Norwalk, Connecticut along with grandchildren Matthew Klokel of Washington, D.C., Faith Klokel of Norwalk, Connecticut. and Lawrence Hall of Elyria. Additional survivors include her sister Marge Prevo of Germantown, Maryland, sisters-in-law Wanda Chochol of Defiance, Ohio, Betty Lovich residing in Georgia, and by many nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband Steve, by her parents Michael and Maria (nee Simon) Chochol, and by her brother Edward Chochol.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Friends may also call Wednesday in Ss. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church, 1500 Lincoln Boulevard, Sheffield Township from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 10:00 a.m. Reverend Edgar Anthony, Pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.

Donations in her memory are encouraged to either Ss. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
