William W. Poprock, 79, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of William W. Poprock William W. Poprock, age 79, of Lorain, passed away on Friday June 28, 2013. He was born in Lorain on August 23, 1933 and remained a life-long resident of the city. Bill was a graduate of Lorain High School.

A veteran of the United States Army, he served with the Third Armored Division

For thirty-five years he had been employed as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service retiring in 1993. He subsequently joined Securitas Security and served as a guard there for fifteen years fulfilling assignments primarily at CenturyTel and U.S. Steel Corporation.

Mr. Poprock was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and was also a member of the Lorain Senior Center. In his free time he enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and watching televised football, baseball, and basketball games.

He is survived by his son Mark of Lorain, by daughters Krista Jarvis (Gary) residing in South Carolina, and Lisa Pyles (Mike) of Sheffield Lake, by grandchildren Brian Jarvis, Erin (Jarvis) Gambrell, Nicole (Jarvis) Hinton, Tony Pyles, and Kayla Pyles, and four great grandchildren. He also leaves brothers Edward (Mary) Poprock and Albert Poprock both of Lorain.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife Helen (nee Bangas) in 2010, by his son Scott in 2002, by his parents Peter and Sophie (nee Flaczynski) Poprock, and by brothers Theodore, Donald, and John.

Visitation will be Wednesday July 3rd from 6:00 p.m. until the time of services at 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Richard Hudak, Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will take place later in Calvary Cemetery.
