Alfonso A. Arrendondo, 79, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of Alfonso A. Arrendondo Alfonso A. Arredondo, age 79, of Amherst, passed away on the morning of Friday July 5, 2013.

He was born in Lorain on July 9, 1933 to the late Mauro and Guadalupe (nee Salgado) Arredondo.

He was the loving husband of fifty years to Louise, the cherished father of Annette Arredondo-Waite (Mark) of Middleburg Heights, and Mark (Stacy) Arredondo of Colorado Springs, the devoted grandfather of Jacob, Hannah, Allison, and Morgan, and the dear brother of Grace Arredondo and Mauro Arredondo, Jr. both of Lorain, He was also the uncle to several and a cousin to many.

Alfonso was a United States Army veteran and fulfilled duty assignments attached to the 164th Infantry Regiment during the Korean War; he was the recipient of the National Service Defense Medal as well as the Good Conduct Medal.

Prior to his retirement, he had been employed for thirty-five years in a variety of capacities by the U.S. Steel Corporation and its successor, U.S.S. – Kobe.

Mr. Arredondo cherished spending time with his family and grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader. He was a fan of history as well as an animal lover. He could often be found walking his pet German Shepherd, Brucke.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain.

Funeral services will be Friday beginning at 9:45 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive in Amherst. Military honors conducted by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will immediately follow church services.

Burial will take place Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
