Dalbert W. Gurnack, 77, U.S. Army Veteran

Photo of Dalbert W. Gurnack Dalbert W. Gurnack, age 77, of Lorain, passed away on Saturday July 13th, 2013 while a patient at Cleveland Metro Health Medical Center. He was born in Lorain on October 31, 1935 and remained a life-long resident of the city. Dal was a 1954 graduate of Lorain High School.

He went on to serve in the United States Army where he fulfilled duty assignments as a SP-4 attached to the 577th Engineer�s Battalion. He was the recipient of the Rifle Marksmanship Badge as well as the Good Conduct Medal.

Mr. Gurnack had been employed as an Electrical Engineer for the Lorain Products Corporation and its successor entities; he retired in 2000 following a career that spanned 43 years with the company.

Dal was a parishioner of Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church in Lorain where he served on the parish council.

He was a Life member of Amvets Post #47 of Lorain, Italian-American Veterans Post #1 of Lorain, and the American Slovak Club. In his free time he enjoyed spending time with his family; additional interests included bowling, golf, and playing cards. He was also an avid fan of both the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years Lottie (nee Iwanek), son Dalbert B. Gurnack (Julie), daughters Kathryn Marcucci (Curt), Denise Gurnack, and Danielle Miles, step-son James Marusin (Emmy), and step-daughters Beverly Alaksa (Richard), Diane Cline, and Elaine Geargas. He also leaves behind 13 thirteen grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Mr. Gurnack was preceded in death by his parents Albert W. and Viola (nee Jenkins) Gurnack, and by sisters Janet Bohley and Marilyn Simon.

Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will begin Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Avenue. Reverend Robert Glepko, pastor of the parish, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of the Disabled American Veterans.
