Jesus Ramirez, 80, U.S. Air Force Veteran

Born on August 13, 1932 in Lorain, Ohio, Jesse resided in Maryville, Tennessee for the past 18 years.

One of ten children born to Maximino and Maria Ramirez, he was a Lorain High School Alumni where he enjoyed being a member of the Choral Group. Mr. Ramirez was employed by US Steel for a year before serving in the United States Air Force in South Africa during the Korean War. In 1955 he founded Ace Plumbing and Heating which he operated until 1969. Jesse then worked for General Motors as a tinsmith. During a layoff from the plant he also served as the Building Inspector for the City of Lorain. Returning to the GM Parma plant, he retired in 1995 after 27 years of dedicated service. During this time, Jesse helped to coach 'F' league boys baseball, he was an assistant Boy Scout Leader, an auxiliary officer with the Lorain County Sheriff's Department, unofficial "employee" of Fritz's Garage and an "honorary" member of the Lorain Police Force. Jesse enjoyed his retirement with his beloved wife, Evelyn, who preceded him in death in 2010 after 53 years of marriage. He gave of his time and talent to help anyone in need. He will be remembered for his smile, sense of humor, and, being the ever accommodating host, the love of a good party. Jesse loved to talk about his life experiences with anyone who would listen. His family was his number one priority and a great source of pride for him.

He will be dearly missed by his sons Jan Michael (Bernadette) Ramirez of North Ridgeville, and Robert (Valerie) Ramirez of Columbus Grove, Ohio, his daughters, Stephanie (Ralph) Woodings of Maryville, and Lisa (Marvin) Rios of Elyria; grandchildren: Mitchell (Kelly), Benjamin, Nathaniel, and Reece Ramirez, Stephen Tanner, Adam (Hillary), Alex, Matthew, and Rachel Rios, Valerie (Ben) and Marlene Woodings and 6 great-grandchildren; brothers Joseph (Karen) Ramirez of Elyria, Enrique (Isabel) Ramirez of Lorain, Max (Charlotte) Ramirez of Seguin, Texas, and sister Maria (Victor) Munoz of Lorain.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jesse was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Ramona; brothers; Fredrick and Charles Ramirez; sisters Mary (Tita) Jasinto, Huberta (Berta) Harmon, and Herminia (Minnie) Montes and several nephews.

His family will receive friends Sunday, July 21 from 2 to 6 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, Lorain, OH. Jesse’s friends and family will gather at the funeral home at 10 AM on Monday, July 22 for a short service and then internment at Calvary Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his wife, Evelyn. Where the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20 and the Air Force will conduct Military Honors.
