Helen Fossie, 90, Enjoyed Sports and Traveling

She was born February 16, 1923 in Lorain and was a lifelong resident. Helen retired as a Student Monitor from Whittier Junior High School in the mid-1970s. She had worked for Lorain City Schools in various positions for 20 Years. Until her 20’s she worked in her family’s business, Arties Confectionary on Pearl Avenue, Lorain.
Helen was a member of Saint Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church and the former Saint Michael Byzantine Catholic Church both of Lorain. She was also a member of the PTA, Saint Macrina Guild, Hungarian Young Men’s Club and Ohio Edison Retirees. She was a Girl Scout Leader. In 2000 she was named volunteer of the year at the Lorain Community Senior Center. Helen participated in crocheting blankets for dolls which, The Giving Doll Program gave them to children in crisis. She enjoyed crocheting afghans for her family, friends, nursing homes and other charities, crafts and tole painting. She was a sports fan particularly the Cleveland Indians and Ohio State football. She loved traveling and being at family celebrations including the Atri Party.
She will be deeply missed by her daughter Rebecca (Roger) Farr of Amherst; sister Hazel (Robert) Gross of Lorain; Nagymama to James (Aleisha) Fossie II, Joshua Fossie and Sherrill (Roger) Goodlive; Great Nagymama to Julia and Cole Fossie, Kate(Morgan) Schreffler, Alex Goodlive, Andrew Graham and Dylan Farr; daughter in law Debbie Fossie and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years Orville Fossie in 1994; son James Fossie in 1992; her parents Steve and Anna (née Vaszily) Arti; sisters Anna, Magdalene and Veronica Arti, Mary Kuzak and Margaret Jensen and a brother Louis Arti.
Her family will receive friends Friday from 3 to 8 PM in the Richard J, Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain where a Parastas will be Friday night at 7 PM. Funeral services will be Saturday with Panikhida at 9:30 AM in the funeral home followed by Divine Liturgy at 10 AM in Saint Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 2711 West 40th Street, Lorain. The Rev. Father Nicholas R. A. Rachford, J.C.L., Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
