Irene Bodzash, 88, Enjoyed Crocheting and Knitting

Irene Bodzash, (nee Stankura), age 88, of Amherst, passed away on Monday August 12, 2013.

She was born in Lorain on August 31, 1924 and had been a long-time resident of Lorain prior to moving to Amherst. Irene was a graduate of Lorain High School.

For many years Mrs. Bodzash was employed in the office of George Canalos Distributing. She also worked side by side with her late husband, James M. Bodzash in the operation of their family funeral home which had been located in south Lorain.

Irene was a parishioner of the former St. Michael Byzantine Rite Catholic Church. In her free time she enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, and knitting.

Survivors include her son Dennis Bodzash (Gail) of Amherst daughter Dawn Marie Wesley of Lorain, grandson Dennis Bodzash, Jr., granddaughter Denise Shelton, great granddaughters Trisha and Crystal, great great grandson Lucas, and sister Betty Stawicki of Amherst.

In addition to her husband, who passed away in 1980, she was preceded in death by her son James D. Bodzash in 2008, by her parents George and Ilona (nee Pravda) Stankura, by her brother Miklos in infancy, and by her sister Margaret Zemantauski.

Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Panachida services at 11:00 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. The Very Reverend Nicholas Rachford, pastor of the parish, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
