Robert Banovich, 90, U.S. Army Veteran

He was born December 4, 1922 in Barberton, Ohio. He moved to Lorain area in the 1930’s.
Bob was U. S. Army Veteran of WWII stationed in India. He earned Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and the Good Conduct and Victory Metals. Bob was a lifelong member of the Disabled American Veterans. He retired as a Millwright in Four Seamless of US Steel Lorain Works 1982. He worked there for 35 years. Bob was a skillful fisherman and golfer, and an avid Cleveland Indians and Browns fan. Bob enjoyed traveling and picnicking with his wife and family. He was an active member of the Light Hearted Club, enjoying the many pig and lamb roasts.
He will be deeply missed his daughter, Patricia (Patrick) Kershaw of Elyria, his son, Robert Banovich of Lorain, and his granddaughters, Kara Morgan of Litchfield and Jennifer Kershaw of Elyria.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 59 year, Sylvia (née Ziberna), his parents, Peter and Anna (née Obramovich), brothers, George and Peter Banovich.
His family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 8 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain 44055. His funeral service will be Friday at 10:30 AM in the funeral home. Rev. Father John C. Retar, Pastor of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish, Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. Where the D. A. V. Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20 will conduct military honors.
