James Thomas Logar, U.S. Marine Corps Veteran

James Thomas Logar was a life-long resident of Lorain. Tom was born on April 12, 1932 to James and Gertrude (nee Stipe) Logar; he passed away on the morning of Friday August 16, 2013 following a lengthy illness.

Tom graduated from Lorain High School with the Class of 1950-B, and from the Elyria Business College in 1957. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal.

Mr. Logar was formerly employed by the A & P Tea Company. He later owned and operated Logar Tax Service, retiring from business in 2002 following a career that spanned 46 years of service. He volunteered for AARP Tax Aide in both Bay Village and North Olmsted and also volunteered with the Lorain County Metroparks where he served as a tram driver.

Tom was currently a parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township where he was an altar server, a member of the Parish Council, and had also taught PSR for several years. He was a former parishioner St. John the Baptist Church in Lorain where he had been a member of the Holy Name Society, the Usher�s Club, and a CCD instructor.

Mr. Logar was also a long-time member of K.S.K.J. Immaculate Conception Lodge # 101 as well as a member of the Ohio Society of Enrolled Agents.

Tom was regarded as a dedicated family man with a loving and giving spirit. He and his loving wife, Mary Ann, were looking forward to celebrating sixty years of marriage on August 28, 2013.

He is survived by his wife Mary Ann (nee Galanic), sons Michael of La Grange, Kentucky, Paul of La Grange, Georgia, and Steven and Mark (Terri), both of Lorain. He also leaves daughters Kathryn Raven of Shaker Heights and Vickie (Michael) Jenkins of Elyria, along with five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Additional survivors include brothers Lloyd (Nancy) of Brea, California, and Timothy (Jane) of Amherst, sisters Margaret (Sam, deceased) Kosonovich, Susan (Corbin) Hammond of Kentucky, Paulette (Mavis) Hayslett of Elyria, sister-in-law SueAnn Logar of New Jersey, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother Richard, sister Gertrude (James, deceased) Gross, and nephew David Logar.

Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, Lorain. Funeral services will begin Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Road, Elyria Township with the Reverend John C. Retar, Pastor of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish, officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
