James A. Asimou, 93, Enjoyed Gardening

Photo of James A. Asimou James A. Asimou, 93, of Lorain, died Friday August 23, 2013 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain after a long illness.

He was born May 8, 1920 in Thebes, Greece and had resided in Lorain since 1964.

James served in the Greek military in 1945 as a cook. He worked at US Steel in Lorain in the blast furnace retiring in 1977. He was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Lorain and was a volunteer at the annual church festival. He enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Eleni Asimou (nee Kollias), son Peter Asimou of Lorain, brother Zachary Asimou and sister Georgia Karadouni, both of Athens, Greece. He was preceded in death by his parents Athanasi and Pagonia Asimou (nee Thededes) and 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

The family will receive friends Monday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain where the Trisayion service will be held Monday at 7:00pm. Additional viewing will take place on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 11:00 am at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 2000 Tower Blvd., Lorain. The Rev. Michael Gulgas, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain.
