Katherine Stohla, 94, Enjoyed Working In Her Yard

Photo of Katherine Stohla Katherine “Katie” Stohla (nee Matesic), 94, of Lorain, died Friday September 27, 2013 at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Amherst after a lengthy illness with Alzheimer Disease and while under the care of New Life Hospice.

She was born August 23, 1919 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

During World War II, Katie worked at Western Automatic (currently Moen) in Elyria as an inspector. After the war, she was a housewife and stay-at-home mom before returning to work part-time at JC Penney in downtown Lorain in the 1960’s.

Katie was a member of the former St. Vitus Croatian Catholic Church in Lorain where she married her husband John on February 22, 1941. She was a current member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain, Croatian Fraternal Lodge #17 and #140 and the Lorain Firemen Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed shopping and working in her yard.

She is survived by her daughter Connie (Dan) Malicki, stepgrandchildren Jack (Becky) Malicki, Pamula (Tim) Robison and Russell (Valerie) Malicki, 6 step grandchildren and sisters Barbara Matesic and Dorothy Rich. She was preceded in death by her husband John, parents Gaspar and Dora Matesic (nee Sudetic), brother Rudolph Matesic and sisters Mary Profant, Anna Marks, Elizabeth Matesic, Pauline Olexen and Fran Phiel.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of funeral services at 11:00 am at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Rev. Edward Luca, Katie’s nephew, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.

The family would like to extend its gratitude to New Life Hospice and Golden Acres for the fine care extended to their mom.
