Dorothy Alice Sakach, 73, Always Put Family First
Dorothy Alice Sakach (nee Stefanich), 73, of Lorain, passed away Saturday October 5, 2013 at University Hospital in Cleveland after a hard fought battle with Thyroid Cancer.
She was born November 24, 1939 in Lorain, the fifth of John and Anna Stefanich’s six surviving children and she attended Clearview Schools.
On May 20, 1960 she married the love of her life, Jerry Sakach, at St. Ladislaus Catholic Church in Lorain where they remained parishioners until its closing.
Over the years Dorothy had several careers beginning as an independent beautician followed by a baker and later as a cake decorator for Kroger and Giant Eagle. But her most important career was motherhood. She always put family first. Retirement allowed her and Jerry to travel, spend winters in Florida with friends, enjoy time with their grandchildren and socialize often with the BF Goodrich retiree group. She also loved a good game of baseball.
Dorothy will be greatly missed but she leaves her family with many memories of her laughter, the abundance of food she prepared and to show her love and her stubborn will to live life to the fullest.
She is survived by her husband Jerry, children Deborah (Patrick) Steele of South Elgin, IL, Patricia (Ed) Cox of Painesville, Paul (Bobbie) Sakach of Elyria and Andrew (Shae) Sakach of Liberty Twp, grandchildren Elizabeth, Tim and Katie Steele, Benjamin and Blake Sakach and Cauletta Hrpcha., sisters Agnes Miadock and Jeanette (Ray) Traczek and brother Michael (Judy) Stefanich, all of Lorain. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Anna Stefanich (nee Molnar), brother Richard Stefanich, sister Mary Hooven and brother-in-law Bill Miadock.
The family will receive friends Tuesday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Robert Glepko, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
