Elizabeth Burd, 87, Devoted Mother and Grandmother

Photo of Elizabeth Burd Elizabeth “Betty” Burd, nee Vrbancic, of Lorain, passed away on Friday October 18, 2013 at Kingston of Vermilion following an extended illness.

She was born in Lorain on November 5, 1925 where she remained a life-long resident. Betty was a graduate of Lorain High School.

She was a parishioner of the former St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church and was a member and former officer of the Altar and Rosary Society there. She also served as secretary of the church’s finance council, sang in the church choir, and was a member of the Legion of Mary.

Betty was a homemaker who was devoted to her children and grandchildren. In her free time she enjoyed cooking, canning, and baking.

She is survived by her son Mark S. Burd (Connie) of Lorain, and by daughters Rebecca Holland (William) of Amherst and Christine Walend (Steve) residing in Sheffield Township. In addition, she leaves grandchildren Tony Burd, Alexandra Wlaszyn, Michael and Melanie Walend, great grandchildren Kristen and Miranda Burd, a niece, and several nephews

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years Michael in 1997, infant son Gary Steven Burd in 1949, granddaughter Natalie Wlaszyn, parents George and Mary (nee Sisnovic) Vrbancic, by brothers Peter, Steve, and Victor Vrbancic, and by sisters Christine Stuller and Katherine Kuhn.

In accordance with Betty’s wishes, private funeral services for her family were held Tuesday October 22nd in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Reverend Mr. Jose "Tony" De Gracia served as the officiant. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery.
