Ramona Ramirez, 90, Always Generous With Her Time

Photo of Ramona Ramirez Ramona Ramirez (née Perez), 90, of Lorain, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, following a lengthy illness, at Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin.

Ramona was born on August 31, 1923 in Lyons, Kansas. She graduated from Kanopolis High School in Kanopolis, Kansas in 1944, and completed secretarial training at Brown and Mackie Secretarial College in Salina, Kansas. During this time, Ramona worked at various factories that supplied food rations for armed forces serving in World War II.

Ramona moved to Cleveland in 1946 and worked as a secretary at Standard Drug, until her marriage to Charles R. Ramirez in 1951. They made their home in Lorain, where she enjoyed being a full-time homemaker.

Ramona was an active member of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Parish (and made tortillas for the church carnival for many years), the Guadalupe Society, The Mother’s Club of the former St. John’s School, and the Mexican Club Sierra. Many neighbor children and adults alike depended on her kindness and open-door policy for a helping hand. Ramona was always generous with her time.

She will be dearly missed by her son Charlie M. Ramirez of Lorain; daughter Linda Ramirez, of Lorain; Diana (David) Vaughn, of Lagrange; granddaughter Meena Ghaziasgar (Nathan Stambaugh) of Wooster; sister Frances Rodriguez of Parma, brother Eugene “Gene” Perez of Kanopolis; and many nieces and nephews.

Ramona was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Charles R. Ramirez, her parents, Miguel and Polycarpia (née Gonzalez) Perez; sisters Demetria, Evelyn, and Crispina; and several brothers and sisters who died in infancy.

Ramona’s family would like to thank her extended family at Welcome Nursing Home of Oberlin, and also Stein Hospice for their loving care.

Her family will receive friends on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Sreet, South Lorain, where closing prayers will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m., and then Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. in St. Frances Cabrini Parish, 2143 Homewood Drive. (Rt. 57 and Homewood Dr.). Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, Ohio.
