Helen L. Rattigan, 75, Avid Reader

She was born August 18, 1938 in Roswell, NM then moved to Columbus at the age of three. Later she moved to Charleston, WV and then moved to Lorain in 1952.

Helen graduated from Clearview High School in 1956 where she was a cheerleader for 4 years and a thespian.

After she married, she moved to Boston, MA in 1976 where she worked as an Executive Assistant for New England Financial retiring in 2000. Then she moved to Virginia and worked for the University of Mary Washington where she helped students study abroad. She also lived in San Francisco, Boston, Fredericksburg, VA and returned to Lorain in 2006.

Helen served as the recording secretary for the Lorain Democratic Women’s Club. She was an avid reader, loved gardening and going to garage sales. She traveled extensively having visited Italy, England, Ireland and Venezuela.

She is survived by her children Richard D. Boone (Debbie), Rebecca L. Boone and Victoria A. Boone, brother Jerry L. Diveley, grandchildren Natasha Parker, Rachelle, Richard and Geoffrey Boone and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert T. Rattigan on Aug 4, 2008, son Gregory W. Boone and her parents GL and Mae J. Paxton (nee Swanson).

The family will receive friends Saturday 10:00 am until the time of the funeral mass at 11:00 am at the Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Craig Hovanec will officiate.

Cremation will follow and her ashes will be buried in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain.
