Gene M. Pearce, 78, Accomplished Vocalist

Mr. Pearce was born on May 1, 1935 in Andover, Ohio, the son of the late Mahlon and Cortelle (nee Morford) Pearce. He graduated from Kinsman High School in 1953 and Ohio Northern University, Ada Ohio in 1957.
He was a retiree from US Steel, where he had been a supervisor in the production systems department. After his retirement he was employed at the former Willow Hardware in Lorain.
He was an accomplished vocalist and maintained a lifetime passion for barbershop style harmony. He sang in many quartets and was a director and member of the Lorain Golden Crescent Chorus. He also sang in the choir at Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, where he was a longtime member.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janice (nee Miller) and his children Douglas (Barbara) Pearce of Lorain, David (Nola) Pearce of Rochester, NY, Cheryl (Mark) Menotti of Burke, VA, grandchildren Jeremy Pearce, Matthew Pearce, Grant Pearce, Clark Pearce, Veronica Menotti, Noah Menotti, brother Harold (Margaret) Pearce of Burghill, and a former daughter-in-law Melissa Foisy of Lorain.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew Timothy Pearce.
He will be remembered for his sardonic wit and droll humor.
A service of remembrance will be held at the Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, 3015 Meister Road, Lorain, Ohio on Monday, November 25, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Greg Sellers, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be private in the Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, 3015 Meister Road, Lorain, 44035 for the purchase of choir robes.
