Margaret E. Blackstone, 84, Will be Deeply Missed
Margaret E. Blackstone, (nee Maloney), age 84, of Elyria Township, passed away at her residence on Monday November 25, 2013.
She was born in Elyria on March 11, 1929 and remained a life-long resident of the city.
Mrs. Blackstone was a 1947 graduate of Elyria High School and later went on to receive her diploma as a Registered Nurse from Lorain County Community College. She was employed as an R.N. at the former St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain retiring in 1987.
Marge was a parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township, and was also a member of the Altar & Rosary Society there. In addition, she served in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Elyria Township Fire Dept for many years.
Prior to the establishment of the Murray Ridge Center, Mrs. Blackstone served as an educational planner for residents of Lorain County who were challenged by developmental disabilities.
She is survived by her loving granddaughter and primary care-giver Carolyn M. Dennisof Elyria Township, by sons Thomas (Linda) Blackstone of Wakeman and Jeffery Blackstone of Elyria, as well as her son-in-law Gus Horak residing in Sheffield Township. She also leaves additional grandchildren James, Brian, Jarred, Terry, Allen, and Jennifer, nine great grandchildren, her sister Patricia Frye of Lorain, her dearest friend and cousin Judy Clevenger of Elyria, her prayer partner Dee Mikolowski, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Homer in 1990, her son Terry in 1991, her daughter Joanne Horak in 2009, her parents Henry and Florence (nee Fortman) Maloney, and her brother James Maloney in 1973.
Please join her family for a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Road, Elyria at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday November 27th. Reverend Donald Dunson, pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Rd., Elyria, OH 44035.
