Karen A. Schudel, 54, Known For Her Sense Of Humor

She was born April 7, 1959 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Karen attended St. John Catholic School in Lorain and graduated from Vermilion High School in 1977.
For 35 years, she worked for Lakeland Eye Surgeons/Cleveland Clinic and was currently Assistant to the Medical Director at the Chestnut Commons facility in Elyria.
Karen was known for her sense of humor and was fond of playing jokes on her family and friends on April Fools Day. Eventually she became known as Aunt Kookoo to her nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. She also enjoyed Burger Therapy with her co-workers during Happy Hour after work.
She especially enjoyed spending time with her daughters, photography and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. She recently won a fan contest and had lunch with Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis. She was a member of the Church of St. Peter.
She is survived by her husband of 24 years Glenn Schudel, daughters Kate Ellis Schudel, a student at the Ohio State University in Columbus and Kelly Schudel, at home, parents Paul and Marilyn Ellis (nee Svete) of Englewood, FL, sisters Lynne (Scott) Pickworth of Wakeman, Kathy (Joseph) Crisp of Vermilion, Marilyn (Tony) DeJesus of Lorain, brother Paul (Jennifer) Ellis of Vermilion, sister Susan (Michael) Cozzie of Huron, 4 nieces and 5 nephews. She was preceded in death by infant brother Paul Antone Ellis.
The family will receive friends Thursday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Additional viewing times will be on Friday from 10:30 am -11:00 am at the Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave, Lorain. The mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 11:00 am in the church. The Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
