Marie E. Zakrajsek, 102, Enjoyed Baking
Marie E. Mitz Zakrajsek (nee Stalzer), 102, died Wednesday January 1, 2014 at Avon Oaks Nursing Home in Avon.
She was born September 27, 1911 in Joliet, Illinois and had resided in Lorain for the past 78 years. She had lived in her own home until last year when she became a resident of Avon Oaks Nursing Home.
Marie was a member of the former Ss Cyril & Methodius Slovenian Catholic Church in Lorain and had recently joined St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Lorain.
Marie enjoyed baking for family and friends making her favorite nut roll, potica cakes and special dressing. She enjoyed card games, crossword puzzles, word search, playing games with her grandchildren, watching professional sports and attending her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events which she attended up until the age of 99.
She is survived by her children Gary (Phyllis) Zakrajsek of Lorain and Andrea (David) Zimmer of Avon Lake, grandchildren Gary Zakrajsek, Jr, Rick (Shelly) Zakrajsek, Mark (Sarah) Zakrajsek, Kelly Zakrajsek, Jeremy Zimmer and Christine Zimmer, 8 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and sister Betty Getson of Joliet, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Zakrajsek in 1986, parents Frank and Anna Stalzer and siblings Frank Stalzer, Anna Berg, John, Louis, Christine and Joseph Stalzer, Roselle Hibler and Edward, William and Rudolph Stalzer.
The family will receive friends Friday 3-7 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 12:30 pm in the funeral chapel. The Rev. John Retar, pastor of St Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
Marie’s family wishes to thank Dr Mustafa K. Eren and the entire staff of Avon Oaks Nursing Home for the compassionate care they showed their mother.
