Joseph Novak

Photo of Joseph  Novak Joseph Novak, 90, of Lorain, died Sunday January 5, 2014 while under the care of New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain.

He was born February 20, 1923 to the late Alex Novak and Julia Novak (nee Halasz) and was a lifelong resident of Lorain.

Joe served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Utah from 1940-1941. During World War II, he served in the US Army in the artillery seeing action in the European Theater and was honorably discharged on Nov. 25, 1945. After the war, he went to work at US Steel retiring in 1984.

Joe was a member of the Church of St. Peter in Lorain and a daily reader of the Bible. He loved his wife and son dearly and enjoyed going to many different events with them. He also enjoyed watching television especially shows like Jeopardy.

He is survived by his loving son Joseph and many nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all those that knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary (nee Muriello) in 2012, his parents, sister Julia and brothers Andy, Steve, Nick and Alex.

The family will receive friends Friday 4-6 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel. The Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor of the Church of St. Peter, will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the VFW #451 and American Legion #30, both of Lorain, will conduct military honors.
