Sidney M. Sultzbaugh, 81, Combat Infantry Badge Recipient

He was born in Lorain, Ohio on June 20, 1932 to Sidney I. and Inez M. (nee Hughes) Sultzbaugh and graduated from Lorain High School in 1950. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Dolores (nee Doslak) on November 8, 1950 and had been married for 63 years. He retired from the City of Lorain as Chief Building Inspector and was a past Master of Lorain Lodge 552 F. & A.M. While employed with the City of Lorain he served as the president of Local 6621 of the Steelworkers Union. He was a member and past vice-president of the Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees Chapter 28-7 and was voted Man of the Year in 2004. He was also a member of the NRA and the Vermilion VFW Post 7576.
Mr. Sultzbaugh proudly served his country during the Korean War when the Lorain National Guard was activated in 1950 with Company B 145th Infantry and served in Korea with Charlie Company 160th Infantry Reg. Among many medals he received, he was especially proud of the CIB, Combat Infantry Badge.
A member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, his hobbies included target shooting, creating a website for Korean War Veterans, coin collecting, Tai Chi, faceting gem stones, solving crossword puzzles and reading. He especially enjoyed spending time with his large family.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Dolores, sons Robert (Karen) and Jeffrey (Kathy), 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and his dog, Ellie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen, in August 2013.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Masonic services will be conducted there at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call in the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 647 Reid Avenue, on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Mary Carson, pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
