Alfred J. Leighty, 85, U.S. Air Force Veteran

He was born December 13, 1928 in Cleveland. Alfred lived in Lorain most of his life. He retired from General Motors in Elyria after 36 years. He served in the U. S. Air force during World War II.
Alfred was an active member of Pittsfield Community Church, where he served on the board, choir member, Sunday School Teacher and many other positions. He enjoyed reading, traveling, working with his hands, bowling, white water rafting, and westerns on TV. Alfred was a volunteer of Lorain County Metro Parks and was chosen a Volunteer of the Year. He once chased and caught a runaway horse. He was also a member of the United Auto Workers and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 63 and a half years Mary Ellen Leighty (née Glass); his daughters Candace (Larry) McDoniel of Vermilion, Randi Leighty and Sandra Brown both of Lorain; his sons Eugene Leighty of Elyria and Russell (Susan) Leighty of Prospect, Kentucky; 6 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren numerous nieces and nephews.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents Robert C. and Helen M. (née Reed) Leighty; a son James D. Leighty and grandchildren David E. Leighty, Braeden Dennis and Aiden Dennis.
A memorial service for Alfred will be Sunday, January 26 at 1:00 PM in Pittsfield Community Church, 17026 State Route 58 (corner of 303), Wellington, Ohio 44090. Pastor Ken Gerhardt will officiate.
