David A. Mate, 58, U.S. Army as a PFC during the Vietnam War

Photo of David A. Mate David A. Mate, 58, of Lorain passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at his home unexpectedly.

Mr. Mate was born in Lorain on November 17, 1955, the son of the late Alexander and Helen Rose (nee Doychak) Mate. He attended Hungarian Reformed Church in Lorain.

He served in the U.S. Army as a PFC during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Mate worked as a printer at Blue Ridge Paper Company in North Olmsted, for 12 years and had worked at the Steel Mill in Lorain, prior to that.

He was a member of the American Legion Post # 30 and the Slovak Club. He enjoyed bowling.

Mr. Mate is survived by sons David A Mate II, of Sullivan, Alexander L. Mate of Vermilion, Andrew D Mate of Lorain, grandchildren, Hunter Mate, Elise Mate, Braden Mate, sisters Karen Critelli, Donna Mate, both of Lorain and a brother, Bobby Mate of Clearwater FL.

Graveside services will be Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 11:30 am in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Rittman, Ohio with full military honors provided.
