Charles Kerecz, 89, Served with the US Navy during World War II

Chuck was born July 12, 1924 in Lorain to Frank and Mary Kerecz (nee Kurtz) and had been a lifelong Lorain resident.
Chuck served with the US Navy during World War II aboard the USS Nehenta Bay aircraft carrier in the Pacific Theater as a plane mechanic and aerial gunner.
He worked at National Tube and US Steel as a roll turner and machinist retiring in 1986 after 44 years.
Chuck was an active member of the Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR) and a life member of VFW Post #451 of Lorain. He enjoyed family, gardening, bowling and telling jokes.
He is survived by his daughter Pam (Dennis) Waite of Lorain, adopted son Denny Moskal of Amherst, longtime companion Irene Farkas of Lorain and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Ann Kerecz (nee Kerti) in 1985, daughter Paula Kerecz Savulak in 2006, parents Frank and Mary Kerecz (nee Kurtz), brothers Paul, Frank and Steve Pesta Kerecz and sisters Mary Olah and Helen Bors.
The family will receive friends Tuesday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:15 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St .Joseph Dr, Amherst. The Rev. Lawrence Martello, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the VFW Post #451 and American Legion #30 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
