Frances Josephine Hodrosky, 91, Loved Being a Homemaker

Photo of Frances Josephine Hodrosky Frances Josephine Hodrosky (nee Muniga) 91, of Lorain passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was born on March 5, 1922 in Amherst to Michael and Catherine (Skura) Muniga. She was a graduate of Amherst High School class of 1940. Frances loved being a homemaker and enjoyed baking her special zucchini bread for family, friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed gardening, traveling, fashion and especially spending time with her family.

As a young woman, Frances competed in the Lorain CIO beauty contest at Crystal Beach Park and was crowned “Miss CIO” in 1942 and again in 1943. She also won the Plain-Dealer RKO Palace bathing beauty contest sponsored by one of the largest Cleveland theaters. Frances began working as a sales clerk and eventually became a buyer for the one-time popular clothing store, Smith and Gerharts (Lorain) travelling to New York to purchase the latest fashion garments for that time period.

Frances is survived by her children, Richard (Kathy) of Henrietta Township, Kathleen Hull of Cleveland and Nicholas (Pingxi) of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren she adored and who brought such joy to her life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters: Carrie Shullick, Marcella Kenzik and Wanda Showalter and brothers Hank Muniga, Pete Muniga and Dick Muniga.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Church, 310 8th Street. Reverend James Becherer will serve as the celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
