Maxine Rosalia Dittmer (nee Smith), 83, Administrator of Anchor Lodge Nursing Home for 14 years

Maxine Rosalia Dittmer (nee Smith), age 83 of Lorain, died Saturday January 25, 2014, at her home after a brief illness. She was born September 24, 1930 in Lorain, and remained a lifelong resident.

Maxine was an administrator of Anchor Lodge Nursing Home for 14 years, retiring in 1984, prior to that she worked at St. Joseph Hospital as a practical nurse.

She had been a life member of the former St. Joseph Church, and currently is a parishioner of Sacred Heart Chapel.

Maxine was a breast cancer survivor since 1990, and survived an aneurysm in 2004. She belonged to AARP, enjoyed gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, and her ching-ching (gambling) trips.

She is survived by children Wayne J. Dittmer of Lorain, Lynne (James) Christner of Lorain, and Elden R. Dittmer of Sullivan, grandchildren Conner, Crystal, Eleea, and Destini Dittmer, and Jason, Corey, and Timothy Christner, along with 7 great-grandchildren, and a sister Jeanne (Wally) Riegel of Lorain, and sister-in-law Dorothy Dittmer of Lorain.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years Wayne R. in 1995, granddaughter Victoria Christner in 1978, a brother George R. Smith in 1984, a sister Evelyn Goohs in 2013, and her parents Grover and Emilie Smith.

Friends may call Tuesday from 4:00 pm till 8:00 pm in Reichlin-Cooley Funeral Home, 2920 Broadway Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday January 29, 2014 beginning with closing prayers at 8:45 am in the funeral home, followed by 9:30 am Mass at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave., Lorain. Rev. William Thaden will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
